How’s this for a busy schedule… opening a display suite for a new high end Toorak development (3 x luxury apartments ranging from $5-15m in Lansell Rd), overseeing the sale of 18 x $1.8-1.9m owner occupied apartments in Hampton, building 10 x apartments and a ground level café in Burke Rd Glen Iris (build to rent), completing 15 x settlements in Bentleigh East, launching sales for new developments in Somers (5 sub division lot), Brighton (3 lots), and there is more!
We were very lucky to have had special guest Illan Samuel, founder of Samuel Property, on the show this week. Samuel Property is a Melbourne based property development company specialising in multi-residential projects (e.g. 15 townhouses, or 20-30 apartments – mainly owner occupiers, in blue chip Melbourne suburbs).
Illan is a wealth of knowledge with over 20 years’ experience and it was enjoyable chat having connected with Illan on common business principals around ‘quality’, and on the importance of strong/ long term working relationships.
This is an important episode for any aspiring property developers or anyone keen to learn from a top operator in the development industry. Illan runs a successful business and his thoughts on what to expect for the Melbourne property market in 2019 are most insightful.
We discuss the following:
• Illan’s background and journey in property, including Samuel Property
• The biggest changes developers have had to respond to in the current property market
• Pitfalls he has noticed in the slowing market, and how to mitigate risk
• Trends and technologies impacting Australian developers
• The qualities of the best property developers
• Advice to a younger self
The key takeaways for me from Illan were the concepts of quality over quantity, focusing on good locations, being a good corporate citizen and surrounding yourself with the right people.
Thanks for tuning in, and enjoy the show!
